Bancomzvjazok JSC Has Financed the Social Edition of Children’s Books in Braille

In Ukraine, more than 100,000 children have extremely poor eyesight; more than 1,000 of them are completely blind. One of the important means of obtaining information for them is tactile books. The Braille type is the best way to develop spelling, grammar, and punctuation skills. But in our country, modern books in point system are issued extremely rarely, and Soviet publications are worn out and unfit for use.   That is why the Bancomzvjazok Company has supported the initiative of the Publishing House of the Old Lion (Видавництво Старого Лева) and financed the printing of books in Braille. The publication has been timed to the 100th anniversary of the Finnish storyteller Tove Jansson. In the context of the project, the stories “The Moomins and the Great Flood” and “Finn Family Moomintroll” (“The Magician's Hat”) have been selected for printing. Stories about the Moomintrolls—masterpieces of children's world literature—are written in a very understandable language, impregnated with kindness and optimism. In April, children with visual impairments will be able to get acquainted with the characters of these fairy tales. 250 copies of each book were issued by the UTOS Republican House of Sound Recording and Printing. Most of them have already been transferred to 86 specialized institutions throughout Ukraine: libraries, boarding schools, rehabilitation centers for children with visual impairment.   We hope that the new books will please the kids, give them the opportunity to know the world and develop harmoniously.
